The combination of sweet and tart flavors creates a deliciously balanced jam that’s perfect for spreading on toast, topping desserts, or filling pastries. It’s an easy way to enjoy the exotic taste of passion fruit year-round.
How to make Passion fruit Jam
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh passion fruit juice (from about 10-12 passion fruits)
- 1/4 cup lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 package (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (like Sure-Jell)
- 1/4 teaspoon butter (optional, to reduce foam)
Instructions:
- Cut the passion fruits in half and scoop out the pulp into a bowl. Strain the pulp through a sieve to get 2 cups of fresh passion fruit juice.
- In a large saucepan, mix the passion fruit juice, lemon juice, and fruit pectin until well combined.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it comes to a boil. Continue stirring until the pectin is fully dissolved.
- Add the granulated sugar all at once and stir until completely dissolved. Bring the mixture back to a rolling boil that cannot be stirred down.
- Boil for 1-2 minutes, or until the mixture reaches the gel stage. To test, place a small amount on a cold plate and run your finger through it; if it holds its shape, it’s ready.
- Pour the hot jam into clean, heatproof containers. Allow the jam to cool completely at room temperature.
Enjoy your homemade passion fruit jam as a spread on toast, a topping for desserts, or a filling for pastries!
