Here is a fantastic , super easy to make Onion Fig Jam recipe.
Years ago, during a trip to Acadia National Park, I found a jar of Stonewall Kitchen Onion Fig jam. Its taste was unlike anything I’d tried before—sweet from the figs yet also savory from the onions, creating a rich and complex flavor. I made a mental note to try making it myself one day but forgot about it until we got fig trees. Now, with plenty of figs to use, I’m excited to finally recreate that amazing jam at home.
Green, black of yellow figs?
For the jam, I highly recommend utilizing green figs due to their balanced sweetness, which complements the jam perfectly without overpowering it. They offer a delightful flavor profile that isn’t overly sweet, making them ideal for this recipe.
However, if you opt for yellow or black mission figs, which tend to be sweeter, it’s advisable to reduce the sugar content by approximately 1/3 cup to maintain a harmonious balance of flavors. Adjusting the sweetness ensures that the jam achieves the desired taste and consistency, allowing the natural sweetness of the figs to shine through without being overly sugary.

It pairs great with fresh mozzarella, Brie, Camembert or any other cheese. We use it on charcuterie boards, toasts and chikettis. You can put it on the top of grilled chicken or pork chop. And, of course, if you are like me you can just eat it straight from the jar.
