Figueres is a fairly small town located on the north of Barcelona, about 20 minutes drive to France southern border. This charming town is Salvador Dali’s birthplace and it is also his burial place. While the most popular attraction in town is Salvador Dali’s Theater Museum, the town is totally worth visiting even if you are not Dali’s fan. We spent one day in Figueres visiting Dali’s museum, walking narrow town streets and taking a break from busy Barcelona.

One Day in Figueres
Salvador Dali’s Theater Museum.
We started our day in Figueres from visiting Dali Museum. Designed by the artist, the museum is the most popular attraction in Figueres. It is also Dali’s burial place. Museum is very controversial but at the same time unique. The museum has the largest collection of Dali’s work as well as the various paintings from Dali’s private collection.

Visiting Dali’s Theater Museum
Església de Sant Pere
We stopped by the church on our way to La Rambla. Located close to the Salvador Dali Theater Museum, the church is open for tourists to enter during the day, it is also free to visit. We spent some time inside the church admiring the stained glass and almost missed the rose window, which looked stunning during the sunny day.
Window shopping.
After the church we stopped by couple of grocery stores to get some jamon in addition to 5 packs that I bought the day before in Barcelona. Those small grocery stores in Figueres look super inviting.
Lunch at Churraskita
We get to the restaurant fairly early and the place was almost empty. The food was great and the service was totally amazing for the place located just blocks away from the touristy area. So, what supposed to be a quick stop for food turned into long relaxing lunch with sangria.
Walk La Rambla
Unlike busy Barselona’s La Rambla, La Rambla in Figueres is quiet and relaxing. With a lot of benches and huge trees, La Rambla is great place to watch people , relax and hide from the sun during hot summer day. We stopped by for coffee and spent some time there people watching and talking about mind blowing Dali Museum visit.
Visit Dali birth house
To complete our Salvador Dali themed day, we headed to Dali’s birdhouse. The house has pictures of Dali’s Family outside. Unfortunately, you can’t get inside the building.
Stroll the town streets
We stopped by couple more coffee places and spend the rest of the day exploring narrow city streets, small alleys an squares. Unlike Barcelona, Figueres isn’t a touristy place. It is a great place to spend a relaxing day away from loud touristy Barcelona.
Final Thoughts
Located north from Barcelona, Figueres is a small town totally worth visiting as a day trip from Barcelona or Girona. Hop on the train and spend one day in Figueres exploring the town and Visiting Salvador Dali Theater Museum.
