Best Things to Do in Malmö : Our Experience
We spent just half a day in Malmö but managed to see quite a bit. Initially, we decided to skip museums after three days exploring Copenhagen, Kronborg Castle, and Frederiksborg Castle, feeling a bit overwhelmed by castles and history.
After a morning in Lund, we took a train to Malmö. From the train station, we walked to Fisktorget and enjoyed the trees in bloom. Next, we strolled to the castle, about a 20-minute walk from the station, and explored its various exhibitions.
The castle felt distinct from those in Denmark. We had a quick lunch there to save time, then wandered through Slottsparken and Kungsparken, stopping by a mill for photos before visiting the garden with its stunning tulips. A charming café in the park offered a crowded but delightful lunch spot.
We then headed to Stortorget for more tulips and continued to Lilla Torg, my favorite place— a lively square filled with restaurants. Then, we discovered Hedman Courtyard’s beautiful historical yellow houses, then walked through Lejonet Passage to Sankt Petri Kyrka.
After attempting a free walking tour at Triangle Station, which didn’t work out, we opted for a beer at a bar instead. We struggled to find a restaurant for dinner due to Sunday crowds but finally settled at Lilla Torg for a great meal. After dinner, we briefly explored Posthusplatsen before catching the train back to Copenhagen.
Though we did a lot, it felt rushed. I strongly recommend spending a full day in Malmö instead of just half.
How to get to Malmö by train
To get to Malmö from Copenhagen, you can take a train from Copenhagen Central Station (København H). Trains run frequently and the journey takes around 35-40 minutes. You’ll arrive at Malmö Central Station (Malmö C).
From Lund to Malmö, you can also take a train. Trains run regularly between Lund Central Station and Malmö Central Station, with a travel time of about 10-15 minutes.

If you ask me when to visit Malmö, my answer will be, “When the tulips bloom in mid-April.” During this time, the entire city is covered in tulips, creating a beautiful and vibrant atmosphere. The parks, squares, and streets burst with colors, making it a perfect time for leisurely walks and photography. The weather in mid-April is also pleasant, with mild temperatures and longer daylight hours, allowing you to explore the city comfortably.
Spring is a wonderful time to experience Malmö. In addition to the tulips, the city hosts various outdoor events and festivals. You can enjoy picnics in the parks, visit open-air markets, and dine at outdoor cafes. The city comes alive with people enjoying the fresh air and blooming flowers.
